A249 Roundabout

The A249 roundabout. 

There are currently two options that Kent Highways are contemplating. 

We have been strongly in favour of option 2 since January 2005 as this fits in with our future plans to incorporate the airfield site into our project but more importantly it gives us a relief road which would run parallel to the A249 where cars could be stacked in busy periods. 

 

Option 1 would separate us from the airfield site and therefore would make it very difficult for it to be upgraded from its present level.

 

We also understand that the police and the highways favour option 2 for safety reasons.  A lorries giving way at the roundabout at option 1 would find it difficult to start again.  Also fog and mist are hazardous at option 1.
